My reasonable hobby goal from the last podcast (here) was to weather & complete my Panzer IV tank by 17 March, may not seam like a big job but this is the first vehicle that I will have ever weathered with oils, and pigments so its a big jump off. So, with 12 days to go here is a picture of what I have achieved so far...
Comment (and subscribe to this post) below for updates.
I made progress (?) I watched some YouTube videos and made a list.
Here is my unfiltered un-spellchecked un-rationalized list:
Order of business:
Done already:
Base coat
To do
Decals
Filter
Wash (as well as below??)
Streaking (or later??)
Two tone chipping (or later??)
Oil pinwash
Discoloration and highlighting effects
Chipping (again??)
Dust/Mud
?
Matt Clear coat
Individual tasks:
Streaking
More research required
TWO TONE CHIPPING EFFECTS
[Not sure about chipping before or after I think the after method below is the best]
https://youtu.be/V5qh5IkeHcU?t=353
Slightly lighter colour
Red/brown primer for a very few
Don't forget some horizontal switches
OIL PINWASH
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fliRVuu4fLg
**Satin varnish before oils (mix of gloss and Matt)
Pin wash 50/50 dark brown and black
Thin 80%
Carefully apply with small brush, in panel lines, rivets etc
After it has dried(?) wipe away excess with brush and thinner
(No varnish required after)
Dark Yellow base coloured
DISCOLORATION AND HIGHLIGHTING EFFECTS
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uV26I1WQ01U&t=78s
Paints used:
Titanium white
Naples yellow
Raw umber
Green Earth
Another green???
Oil paint on cardboard to soak out oil
50/50 Naples yellow with white (a lighter color that the original paint)
Put on a few dots or short lines, minimal paint (almost like a wash)
add some thinner to an old splayed brush smear out
Should be subtle, you are after a non-uniformity of the colour
Same again with green areas
Use a darker color
As above
Same again with off-white/cream on top most panels, the ones most exposed to fading
Same again
Dark green/dark-brown mix almost looks like chipping
Same again grease or grime hard brown panel lines (query instead of pinwash??)
CHIPING Foam and brush

https://youtu.be/V5qh5IkeHcU?t=387
Dark brown
Sponge and tweasers
(option: Use bad brush that has splayed brissels)
DUST/Mud

Notes/thoughs:
Grease/mud would be good if it was shiny not matt. Brush/dab on gloss after?
